The East Clarendon varsity volleyball team lost it’s fifth game Tuesday night against Charleston Charter, failing to capture the lower state championship.

The East Clarendon High School varsity volleyball team lost it’s third match against Charleston Charter on Tuesday in the lower state playoffs. The score is now 2-1. The Wolverones need to win three games to advance to the state finals.

Palmetto Trust sells historic Senn Blacksmith Shop and Grist Mill

COLUMBIA – The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation announced Tuesday that it has sold the historic Senn Blacksmith Shop and Grist Mill located at 3 Cantey St. in Summerton.

The new owners are Ken Wells and Marion D. Jenkinson IV, who intend to use the mill for their pecan business and to sell pecans in the shop, according to Katie Alice Walker with KAW Communications.

The property, which is more than 100 years old, last operated as a blacksmith shop in 1940. The grist mill operated until 1999, and the property was listed on the National … Read the rest


Mom of woman killed in jet-ski wreck wants law that requires breathalyzers

milliMelissa Grice won’t be able to give her daughter, Millicent McDonald, a gift for what would’ve been the girl’s 20th birthday on Nov. 18.

McDonald was killed in a jet-ski wreck on Lake Marion in May. The man who hit her, 26-year-old Justin Walters, was charged in late September with reckless homicide by watercraft, a charge that carries up to 10 years in prison.

Walters passed field sobriety tests, according to law enforcement officers with the state Department of Natural Resources. No breathalyzer test was administered, and DNR is not required to administer such tests under state law.
