Christmas gifts stolen from vehicle

Crime-ReportsA 39-year-old Alcolu woman told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office that someone entered her vehicle between 8 p.m. Nov. 4 and 9 a.m. Nov. 5 and took several Christmas presents valued at $300 from her trunk. The car was parked at a home in the 1900 block of Main Street in Alcolu. The gifts were described as clothes and furs.

SUMMERTON – John Raymond Frederick, 76, husband of Alice Munday Frederick, died

Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Born September 10, 1938, in Lowell, MI, he was a son of the late Samuel Robert Frederick

and the late Georgia Lee Young Frederick. He was a US Navy Veteran, a member of the

Ham Radio Operators Club and the Model Airplane Club. John, along with his wife, was a

14 year volunteer with the US Forestry Service.

CHURCH-NEWS-DARK-BLUE-FEATUREDSummerton Presbyterian Church invites the community to celebrate the church’s Homecoming on Nov. 9. Dr. Joseph T. Stukes, professor emeritus at Francis Marion University and ruling elder in the John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Florence, will share about the history of the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.

The Rev. Dr. Charles Jarred Hammet Jr. will be the guest preacher during the 11 a.m. service. Hammet served the church as pastor from 1988 to 2001. Currently, he is the pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon, Ga.

OBITS-BACKGROUND-2-smallerDavid Dow, husband of Ruby Green Dow, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born on July 15, 1933, in Rimini, he was a son of the late Isaac and Christina Richardson Dow.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 265 Hidden Bay Road in Sumter.

Funeral plans will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

James Lezime Paradis Jr., 65, beloved husband of Constance Lee Smith “Connie” Paradis, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Dec. 29, 1948, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Jim was a son of James Lezime Paradis Sr. and the late Rita Doris Long Paradis. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Desert Storm. Swampcats to play first round of play-offs at home

LMA ShieldThe Laurence Manning Academy varsity football team will play Cardinal Newman on Friday at Billy Chitwood Field in Manning in the first round of the state playoffs. Admission will be $8 for adults, $4 for children, and booster club passes are not accepted during play-off games. The pep club is asking everyone to dress in their bird hunting attire.

Inv. Holmes Nathaniel Smith Jr.

SUMTER – Holmes Nathaniel Smith Jr., 45, husband of Tonia Mallett Smith, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, from injuries sustained in an automobile wreck.

Born June 15, 1969, in Columbia, he was a son of Frances Smith and the late Holmes Nathaniel Smith Sr. He was an investigator with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, and had 19 years of experience in law enforcement.

The family will received friends at the home of his father- and mother-in-law, William “Bill” and Ruth Mallett, 408 W. Boyce St. in Manning.
