Briggs proud of team's journey

As the Hammond Skyhawks were presented the SCISA 3-A trophy aftear defeating LMA's Swampcats Saturday night, Head Coach Robbie Briggs said he was proud of how far his team has come. "You got to go back and reflect on the entire season," he said. "I'm very proud of how far we've come in the last 16, 17 months. Evidently we still have a ways to go." Untimely penalties stifled a few offensive chances, but Hammond's defense was outstanding, he said. "Until you look at the film you don't know what happened up front. We didn't do nearly a good enough job opening holes for our running back and when we tried to throw the football they were able to bring some pressure," he said. "It's disappointing."   The Swampcats finished 11-3 on the season and 7-1 in the region. Last night's state championship was the first time since 1997 the Swampcats reached the final. We'll be posting photo galleries of Saturday night's matchup so check back to Manninglive.com for updates.
