Laurence Manning Academy will host the South Carolina Independent School Association Battle of the Books on Thursday at Weldon Auditorium on North Brooks Street in Manning. Third- through fifth-grade students will compete at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, while sixth- through eighth-grade students will compete at noon. The competition will be broadcast live on SwampCatTV.com. Ten schools in the region will be competition to advance to the State Competition. "It is a reading incentive program," said Kim Jolly. "Students read books from a list and then answer questions about the books in the competition to test their knowledge of the books they have read. They compete as teams against other schools." LMA first participated last year. "We are excited about getting the chance to host it," Jolly said. "Our librarian, Rhonda Burroughs, is heading it up for us."
