PalmettoPride announces new web and mobile citizen reporting app

COLUMBIA - PalmettoPride announced Monday the Trash Tracker mobile phone app, a new program that will allow residents to report litter issues and request services through an online and mobile interface.

Powered by SeeClickFix, the location-based reporting platform allows residents to document litter and illegal dumping concerns across the state.

“This new reporting app reinforces PalmettoPride’s commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in South Carolina,” said PalmettoPride Director Sarah Lyles. “The more we can engage citizens, the more we will change behaviors that causes one to litter in the first place.”

With the online and mobile reporting platform, users can report litter, illegal dumping and other hot spot concerns through service-request categories on PalmettoPride’s website, mobile applications (iPhone, Android), Facebook App and SeeClickFix.com.

With the mobile app, users can also provide locational, descriptive, and photographic information as they see the issue in real time. Once the user submits an issue, PalmettoPride, and anyone ‘watching’ the area will receive an alert. PalmettoPride can then acknowledge the service request, route it to the proper department, and update the request — and residents following the issue — once it’s been resolved.

This new mobile reporting function will open up the lines of communication on more than just blight. It will allow citizens to look for community cleanup activities in their area, follow local issues and create their own “watch areas” to receive notifications about all issues reported in their community, enabling them to follow the progress of all service requests -- not just the ones they report.

The Trash Tracker phone app is the latest tool in PalmettoPride’s community engagement arsenal. The app will work in conjunction with the organization’s Litter Busters Hotline - (877) 7LITTER or (877) 754-8837.

In the coming weeks, residents will also be able to report hot spots in addition to vehicle litter on the Litter Busters Hotline.
