Laurence Manning Academy Head Coach Robbie Briggs is proud of the seniors.
"I'm happy for the school," he said shortly after the Swampcats marked a dominating 44-7 win at Billy Chitwood Field against the Barons of Wilson Hall.
A face-off with Hammond's Skyhawks for SCISA Class 3A supremacy looms next, as LMA heads to the finals, an achievement not recognized in 17 years.
"Dr. (Spencer) Jordan and I put a plan together about 16 months ago and we stuck with the plan," Briggs said.
There was nothing but respect for tonight's opponents.
"Wilson Hall has a tremendous program," he said.
Before the kickoff, Briggs said he told the seniors to stick to the plan.
"We worked hard. We had a great prep week. For big games you want confidence, clarity and you want communication," he said, "and things went well for us; the turnovers helped."
"A sound defense," that consistently stifled the Barons also won praise from Briggs.
"The school deserves it," he said. "It's been a long time."
We'll post photo galleries over the next few days of LMA's semi-final win.
