Briggs praises Seniors as LMA eyes SCISA 3A Finals

Laurence Manning Academy Head Coach Robbie Briggs is proud of the seniors. "I'm happy for the school," he said shortly after the Swampcats marked a dominating 44-7 win at Billy Chitwood Field against the Barons of Wilson Hall. A face-off with Hammond's Skyhawks for SCISA Class 3A supremacy looms next, as LMA heads to the finals, an achievement not recognized in 17 years. "Dr. (Spencer) Jordan and I put a plan together about 16 months ago and we stuck with the plan," Briggs said. There was nothing but respect for tonight's opponents. "Wilson Hall has a tremendous program," he said. Before the kickoff, Briggs said he told the seniors to stick to the plan. "We worked hard. We had a great prep week. For big games you want confidence, clarity and you want communication," he said, "and things went well for us; the turnovers helped." "A sound defense," that consistently stifled the Barons also won praise from Briggs. "The school deserves it," he said. "It's been a long time." We'll post photo galleries over the next few days of LMA's semi-final win.
