JV Saints defeat Holly Hill

HOLLY HILL – The Clarendon Hall junior varsity football team added to its win column Thursday night, defeating the Holly Hill Academy Raiders 34-8. The win ups the JV Saints’ record to 6-1 for the season. The Saints used eight different running backs to gain 191 total yards rushing, with Kameron Earles leading the way with 11 carries for 107 yards. The Raiders received the opening kick-off and fumbled the ball on the return, which set up the Saints with a short field on the Raider 37 yard line. After a 10-play drive, Earles found the end zone on a15-yard run with 2:10 remaining in the first quarter. The Raiders responded early in the second quarter with a 58-yard, six-play drive to knot the score at 8-8 with 7:02 left in the half; however, that would be their only scoring drive of the night. The Saints were able to find the end-zone on the very next drive on a 17-yard Josh Black run. After a Saints turnover, the defense stiffened and the Saints got the ball back, by way of a Raider punt, with 59 seconds remaining in the half. On the very first play of the drive, Earles connected with Stephen Henning for a 51-yard touchdown pass to up the score to 20-8 at the half. The Saints received the opening kick-off in the third quarter and put together a three-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard Kade Elliott run for a touchdown. On the very next Raider possession Bobby Ashba intercepted a Raider pass and scampered 93 yards for pay dirt with 55 seconds remaining in the third quarter to finish out the scoring with a 34-8 lead. The defense was led by Ashba, who had nine total tackles for the night. Earles, Justin James and Micheal Bolston added seven total tackles each. The JV Saints will host Jefferson Davis Academy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at home.
