OBITS-BACKGROUND-6-smallerSUMMERTON – Mattie James Walters, 92, widow of Mott Walters, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Northwoods Senior Living Care in Sumter.

Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Julius James and Hattie Richburg James.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1468 Oliver James Road in Summerton.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

 


Sarah Baxley Lyons

OBITS-BACKGROUND-smallerLAKE CITY – Sarah Baxley Lyons, 57, wife of Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Lyons Sr., died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, after an extended illness.

Born Feb. 12, 1957, in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph B. Baxley and Mattie Lee Marlowe McGee. She was affectionately known as “Lucille,” and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina C. Osborne; and a brother, Donald Baxley.

United Ministries meeting on Tuesday

united ministriesUnited Ministries of Clarendon County will hold its semi-annual membership meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church, 7827 Paxville Highway in Manning. Membership dues are $25 for individuals and couples, $100 for churches, organizations and businesses. Donations are welcome at P.O. Box 73, Manning, SC 29102.

 


Gable man arrested for second DUS in Sumter

Crime-ReportsDwight Edward Kennedy, 42, of 3173 Farmington Road in Gable was charged about 11:21 p.m. Wednesday with driving under suspension, second offense; open container; defective headlight; and no proof of insurance after a traffic stop in the 700 block of Oswego Highway and South Pike East in Sumter.

Library closed today

HARVIN-CLARENDON-COUNTY-LIBRARYThe Harvin Clarendon County Library will be closed today for the Labor Day holiday, and will reopen from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The book-drop will be available for the return of unrestricted materials.
