Cash, check and bank card taken from man’s wallet at home

Crime-ReportsA 65-year-old Manning man told deputies about 7:22 a.m. Aug. 6 that he found money missing from his wallet left atop the dresser in his bedroom, saying that it was taken between 7 p.m. Aug. 5 and the time of his call. He said $2,200 in cash was taken from the wallet. He also said he had a check from the Department of the Treasurer in the amount of $168 taken from the home, which is in the 1500 block of Brown Road in Manning. He said an unknown person had made a $500 withdrawal from his bank account using


Clarendon Baptist holding AWANA programs each Wednesday

Man says woman punched him in Wasau Park

Crime-ReportsA 31-year-old Summerton man told deputies about 11:29 p.m. Aug. 5 that a woman approached him in the path by Wasau Park in Summerton and punched him in the head several times, ripped his shirt and pushed him into a metal fence about 10:53 p.m. that day. The man’s aunt told deputies at Clarendon Memorial Hospital that the man is slightly mentally disabled with “a child-like demeanor.” The man told deputies that he was having pain in his head and shoulder. Clarendon Memorial Hospital released the man that same night.


Residents may be eligible for telephone service payment help

mobile_payment-thumb-450x289_img_assist_customResidents in Clarendon, Williamsburg, Lee, Sumter and Florence counties who need help paying for their telephone service could be eligible for relief through a federal program called Lifeline.

Lifeline reduces residential landline telephone service by $12.75 per month or wireless service by $9.25 per month.

The Federal Communications Commission and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates are designating Sept. 8 to Sept. 14 as “National Telephone Discount Lifeline Awareness Week.”

FTC customers could qualify for Lifeline if their household income is at or below 135 percent of the federal poverty level or if they receive any of the … Read the rest

Alphonza Dow Sr.

Alphonza Dow Sr., 71, husband of Mary Ella Pearson Dow, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the home of his nephew and niece-in-law, J.W. and Dorothy Walters, 309 Pinckney St. in Sumter.

Born in the Davis Station section of Clarendon, “Dow Boy” was a son of the late Elliott and Plummie Gipson Dow. He attended Clarendon County public Schools. He was employed as a logger, farmer and landscaper.

LMA ShieldLaurence Manning Academy whipped Pinewood Prep on Friday night, not letting the school’s team score a point. The final score was 51-0. The Swampcats play next week at Heathwood Hall.
