crimeA 1991 16-foot Mon Ark boat valued at $3,500 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Davis Street in Manning between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 21 and 8:35 a.m. Aug. 22.

South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with injuries at Bloomville and Oak Grove Church roads in Manning. Two ambulances from Clarendon County EMS were sent that way.


Wreck with entrapment on Plowden Mill Road

South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe Clarendon County Fire Department has been dispatched to Plowden Mill Road for a wreck where the S.C. Highway Patrol reported entrapment. As of now, the driver of the vehicle is fine. The passenger is uninjured, but authorities will have to remove her from the vehicle. Traffic may be slower during this time.

We will likely see more rain today, according to the National Weather Service, which has forecast a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

It’s currently 73 degrees with 94 percent humidity. The high today is near 82.

Tonight the chance of precipitation drops to 30 percent, and there’s a low of 68 degrees.

 

 

 


Lawn mower engine, tractor battery stolen from Cassie Lynn Drive home

crime-sceneA 22-horsepower lawn mower engine and a tractor battery valued at $1,410 were reportedly stolen from a home in the 1100 block of Cassie Lynn Drive in Manning between 8 a.m. Aug. 15 and 6:52 p.m. Aug. 22.

Medication stolen from woman’s home

Crime-ReportsA 60-year-old woman told deputies about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 that an unknown person took a bag of medications valued altogether at $350 from a table in her home between 4 p.m. and the time of her call. The woman said she fell asleep and noticed the medication gone when she woke up. The medications included morphine, metroprolol, tizanidine, simvastatin, trazodone, benzonatate and oxycodone.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Jasmine Bethune graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas, recently. A 2009 graduate of Manning High School, Bethune earned a bachelor’s degree in 2013 from Voorhees College in Denmark. She completed an intensive eight-week program at Lackland that included training in military discipline, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Remembering Hugo: ‘Cowering like a dog before a harsh master’

HUGO-DOPPLER-RADARA March study from Colorado State University’s Department of Atmospheric Science’s Hurricane Activity Report predicts that 2014 will be “below-average probability” for hurricanes to make landfall on the U.S. coastline.

That was good news for Clarendon residents who remember the wallop the area took when Hurricane Hugo blew through in excess of 135 mph more than two decades ago.

On Sept. 22, 1989, Hugo pointed its wicked arrow at Clarendon County and struck a bull’s eye with a terror that has never been duplicated. And almost no one was ready for the storm or its aftermath.

Man arrested for exploitation of elderly woman

A 53-year-old Manning man was arrested Aug. 27 by the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult after an attorney told deputies the man took about $100,000 from an elderly woman.

Richard Allen Wise of 4075 Rowe Drive in Summerton posted a $10,000 surety bond through Anderson Bail Bond and Services the day of his arrest.

Reports did not indicate Wise’s relationship with the woman, nor the time frame in which he allegedly took the money.
