Hit and run with no injury on I-95

Willia Mae Pearson Gibbs

Willia Mae Pearson Gibbs, 67, widow of Willie Lee Gibbs, died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Born Feb. 16, 1947, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Cicero Pearson Sr. and Essie Waiters Pearson.

Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Celebratory services for Willia Mae Pearson Gibbs will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at the Manning Junior High School gymnatorium, 1101 W.L. Hamilton Road in Manning, with Evangelist Mary Bethune presiding and the Rev. Lee Pearson Sr., eulogist. … Read the rest


LMA varsity defeats Calhoun

LMA ShieldThe Laurence Manning Academy varsity Swampcats defeated Calhoun in volleyball on Thursday, 3-1. Scores were 25-19, 25-15, 24-16 (L) and 25-13.

Sara Herbert had 20 kills and 13 serve points; Courtney Beatson had 12 kills, eight blocks and 12 serve points.

Breanna Bradham and Maggie Eppley both had 17 assists. Megan Gram had 15 serve points.

Cissy'sEDITOR’S NOTE: Denise Sams, owner of Cissy’s at the Studio, is one of nearly 100 local businesswomen who will be recognized Sept. 23 during Main Street Manning’s annual meeting. The Manning Times will be featuring a few of these women each week throughout September in The Manning Times, and posting stories daily on manninglive.com.

Denise Sams opened Cissy’s in 2007 when Studio 1916 also opened on South Mill Street. She has been in the area since moving from North Carolina in 2002.

LMA JV defeats Heathwood Hall

LMA ShieldLMA hosted Heathwood Hall for JV football Thursday, defeating Heathwood 19-15.

Braydon Osteen scored two TDs, Morgan Morris scored a TD, Brewer Brunson had an intersection to set up a score. Wyatt Wilson was 1-2 extra points. LMA failed on a two-point conversion.

LMA JV is now 2-0. The team’s next game will be at Wilson Hall.

 


Clarendon Baptist group travels to Moldova

JV Saints keep perfect record

fleur-de-lis-red-mdThe Clarendon Hall Junior Varsity volleyball team upped its region record Thursday to 5-0 in Summerton over Dorchester Academy, 2-0, with the scores of 25-19 and 25-23.
The Saints were led by Madison Kidd with 16 points and four aces. Mallory McIntosh added 11 points and two aces and Brystal Shuler had nine points and two aces.
The JV Saints will play again next Thursday in Summerton against Holly Hill Academy.


CHS Volleyball team wins over Dorchester

fleur-de-lis-red-mdThe Clarendon Hall varsity volleyball team evened its region record Thursday in Summerton to 3-3 on the season with a win of 3-0 over Dorchester Academy with the
scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21. The Saints were led by Emily Brunson and Shannon Corbett, with 19 service points each. Devyn Royce had 14 points and Delaney Peeler had 12 kills.

The Saints will travel 5 p.m. Tuesday to St. Francis Xavier.

LMA B-Team keeps record at 3-0

LMA ShieldThe Laurence Manning Academy B-Team Football team improved to 3-0 on the season Thursday with a 56-14 victory over Heathwood Hall.  Wyatt Rowland scored on runs of 60 and 23 yards in the first quarter of play.  In the second quarter, Bennett Stephens scored on a 28-yard run and Trey Sharpe scored on a run of 12 yards.

In the third quarter, A.J. Nelson scored on a 32 yard run and Henry Black scored on runs of 23 and 52 yards.  In the fourth quarter, Still McIntosh scored on a three-yard pass from A.J. Nelson.
