Wreck with no injuries on I-95 bridge over Lake Marion

TSouth_Carolina_Highway_Patrolhe S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with no injuries in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 on the bridge over Lake Marion that connects Orangeburg and Clarendon counties. Traffic will be slower. Please be careful out there.


Vehicle rollover on I-95

South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a vehicle rollover near the 121 mile-marker in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95. According to reports, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over into trees. First responders reported that the two persons in the vehicle are out and uninjured. Traffic will be slower during this time.


‘Project Peak’ topic of special meeting Tuesday night

county sealClarendon County Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss a possible fee-in-lieu-of-taxes (FILOT) for “Project Peak,” a new industry the Clarendon County Development Board is trying to woo.

“We passed first reading on Monday night … ” said Council Chairman Dwight Stewart. “We think it’s a good fit for the county, and once we can reveal it, we believe it will be some exciting news for Clarendon County.”

The deal could mean up to 50 jobs and a $10 million investment.

Linda-FagnantSUMTER – Linda Louise McIntosh Macklen Fagnant, 72, wife of Robert Paul Fagnant, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at her home.

Born Feb. 16, 1942, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William Franklin McIntosh Sr. and Sallie Idelle Johnson McIntosh Whitas. She was an avid bowler and Gamecock fan and she was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church.

LMA ShieldThe Laurence Manning Academy junior varsity Swampcats were victorious in volleyball Thursday against Calhoun Academy, 2-1. The scores were 25-8, 25-11 (L) and 25-8.

Brooke Ward had 10 kills and six serve points. Sarah Collen had 11 serve points. Madisyn Hudson had 15 serve points. The team travels to Wilson Hall on Tuesday.

It’s currently about 90 degrees with 63 percent humidity and winds out of the southeast at 5 mph.

Tonight’s low is around 70 degrees. A hazardous weather outlook also has been issued in conjunction with the possibility that thunderstorms could cause flooding of low lying areas and places with poor drainage.

Saturday’s forecast is currently calling for a 60 percent chance of rain.

Ella Jane Daney Hicks, 90, widow of Jessie “Mossie” Hicks, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Windsor Manor Nursing Facility in Silver.

Born April 17, 1924, in the Cypress Fork section of Clarendon County, “Missie” was a daughter of the late John Roland and Dollie Williams Daney. She attended Clarendon County public schools and was licensed as a midwife. She joined Cypress Fork AME Church in Alcolu at an early age, and was an active member. Economic Development Board to host biofuel grants meeting Sept. 18

clarendon countyThe Clarendon County Development Board, in conjunction with the South Carolina Clean Energy Business Alliance, will host a public meeting Sept. 18 as part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Rural Development Rural Business Enterprise Grant that is designed to connect economic development officials in Clarendon and Colleton counties with industrial biofuel companies.

The grants will help fund studies on transportation biofuel investments for commercial and military use in each county.
