Man charged in May lake fatality facing two prior DUIs

The 26-year-old Florence man charged officially Monday for his alleged role in the death of a 19-year-old on Lake Marion in May has two DUI charges pending against him. The state Department of Natural Resources, however, says that the wreck that happened May 19 that led to the death of Millicent McDonald did not involve alcohol. They say Justin Reed Walters passed field sobriety tests at the scene. According to a records check through the State Law Enforcement Division, Walters has one DUI charge from Jan. 20, 2013, in his home county, and another from April 22, 2014, in Richland County. Walters' attorney and brother, Jamie L. Walters, said his brother is currently seeking counseling, though he did not specify during a bond hearing Monday whether it was for alcohol abuse.
