Interstate 95 now clear

The S.C. Highway Patrol has cleared Interstate 95 in the northbound lanes near the 126 mile-marker after an early morning wreck between two tractor trailers and six passenger vehicles sent drivers and passengers to the hospital and also shut down through-traffic for nearly eight hours. Lance Cpl. David Jones said the driver of one tractor trailer was charged with driving too fast for conditions for contributing to the wreck. "The tractor trailer ran off the road, overcorrected and overturned in the roadway," Jones said. "Other vehicles weren't able to avoid the collision with the truck." One of the injured was airlifted to a Columbia hospital. One of the tractor trailers was carrying dry cement powder, and clean-up took a substantial amount of first responders' time, Jones said.
