Industrial park growth continues

A new spec building is in the works. A contractor's notice of project commencement dated Sept. 15 and filed today shows Thompson Turner Construction of Sumter will construct a 50,000 square foot speculative building on parcel 22 in the Clarendon County Industrial Park. Development Board Executive Director John Truluck said today the spec building isn't "Project Peak," a much ballyhooed industry prospect that is likely to receive a fee-in-lieu-of taxes (FILOT) from county council. This industry has been touted to bring as many as 50 jobs with a $10 million investment. Second reading on the FILOT is slated for the next county council meeting. Initial work on the building was to begin today, Truluck said, but was delayed because of the weather. A ceremonial groundbreaking has been scheduled for 4 p.m. on Oct. 6, he said. This would be the seventh spec building, which shows a solid track record in recruiting industry, he said. Construction will likely be completed by the beginning of 2015, he said. The industrial park, located just off S.C. 301 and right next to Interstate 95, currently has 230 acres available priced at $15,000 an acre, according to the development board's website.
