After having a week off, the Clarendon Hall JV football team got back into the win column Thursday night as the Saints defeated the Palmetto Christian Academy Eagles 34-12. The JV Saints' record now stands at 2-1 on the season. The Eagles received the game-opening kick-off and immediately ran into trouble, as three of their first four plays were band center-to-quarterback exchanges resulting in a four-and-out. This gave the ball over to the Saints on the Eagle's 15-yard line. Two plays later, Kameron Earles scampered around the right end to put the Saints on the board early. Earles also added the two point conversion for a quick 8–0 lead. After another four-and-out by the Eagles, once again the Saints got great field position, starting their next drive on the Eagle’s 35. Four plays later, quarterback Dylan Way connected with tight-end Ben Corbett for a 23-yard touchdown pass, with Bobby Ashba adding the two-point conversion as the Saints lead increased to 16-0 to end the first quarter. As the second quarter was winding down, Way connected again with Corbett, this time for a 49-yard touchdown strike as Ashba again added the two-point conversion to take a 24-0 half-time lead. Midway through the third quarter, the Saints were threatening again, with the ball on the Eagle 5-yard line, but a fumble ended the threat. Two plays later the Eagles got on the board with a 95-yard quarterback scamper. However, their celebration was short-lived as Earles returned the ensuing kick-off 65 yards for his second touchdown of the night; Ashba added his third two-point conversion. The Saints lead was 32-6 after three quarters. The Saints added two points in the fourth quarter by way of a safety as another Eagle snap sailed over the quarterback and out of the back of the end zone. The offense was led by Earles, who had nine carries for 66 yards, and three kick-off returns for 92 yards (a total of 158 all-purpose yards) and two touchdowns. Ashba added seven carries for 80 yards. Corbett ended the night with three receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was led by Dylan Way with nine tackles for the night. Michael Bolston added six tackles, with five of those being tackles for a loss. Ashba, Earles, and Kade Elliot each contributed five tackles each. The JV Saints will host Holly Hill Academy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Summerton.
