Saints remain undefeated against Laurens

LAURENS – Clarendon Hall remained undefeated Friday night, netting a 54-40 region win over Laurens Academy. The Saints scored on the first drive of the game, then scored again after recovering a Crusader turnover to take a 16-0 lead. But Laurens regained momentum with a 56-yard touchdown run on its next possession. After three lightning delays and an hour-and-a-half delay, the Crusaders scored again on another long touch down run, this time for 67 yards. In the second quarter, Laurens scored again, putting together an 88-yard drive that included a 53-yard pass play to go ahead 18-16. The Saints regained the lead with 0:35 in the half, but Laurens answered on the next play with a 58 yard touchdown pass to take a 26-24 lead at halftime. The Saints then took control in the second half, scoring on their next three possessions and shutting down Laurens’ big plays. With a 46-26 lead, the Saints appeared to be in control, but Laurens did not quit. With seven minutes left in the game, a 45-yard pass and a short touchdown run by the Crusaders closed the gap. Then, after recovering the onside kick, Laurens scored again to cut the lead to 46-40. The Saints recovered the onside kick this time, and then drove for a score with quarterback Dustin Way scoring his 4th touchdown of the game to secure the win. For the Saints, Dustin Way rushed 24 times for 180 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for four two-point conversions and passed for another. He went 4-5 passing for 48 yards. Gavin Allan rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and went 1-1 passing for a touchdown. He also had a two-point conversion run. Daniel Pappas added 47 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Matthew Corbett rushed four times for 42 yards and caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown and a two-point conversion. The Saints totaled 329 yards rushing and 54 passing for the game for 383 total yards. On defense, the Saints were led by Daniel Pappas and Mac Davis with 11 tackles each. Trey Thomas added 10. Matthew Corbett and Ryan Morris each had seven. Dustin way had an interception and broke up two passes and Matthew Corbett broke up three passes. Trey Thomas recovered a fumble. The defense totaled four sacks and seven tackles for loss. The Saints improve to 3-0 on the season, 2-0 in the region. Their next game is 7:30 p.m. Friday against Richard Winn Academy.
