Never forget. Mayor Julia Nelson thanked a small crowd of citizens and first responders who gathered this morning at Manning Municipal Park to "commemorate this day that the United States will never forget." After the Future Farmers of America presented colors and Rep. Bobby Ridgeway (D-64) recited the Pledge of Allegiance, Nelson recognized members of Clarendon County's Sheriff's Office and Fire Department as well as Manning's Police Department and Fire Department. Thirteen years ago, the American people endured "with courage and heroism" the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil, she said, which claimed the lives of thousands. First responders "immediately and without concern for their own well being rose to service," she said, to protect the lives of those at risk. Honoring the lives lost that day is "a positive and respectful way to remember," she said.
