MECC principal tells police parent almost hit her in parking lot

Manning Early Childhood Center Principal Betty Harrington told police about 2:32 p.m. Aug. 19 that a 40-year-old man nearly hit her in the school’s parking lot during dismissal that day, and that the man was highly belligerent and yelling at her and others. Police stopped the man – who was driving a white minivan – in front of SAFE Federal Credit Union on Paxville Highway, and he told them that “traffic was insane” at the school and that he was trying to get Harrington’s attention. The man said she didn’t want to talk to him. Harrington and a witness told police, however, that the man was blowing his horn and then got out of the van and “started yelling like he was crazy, as well as waving his arms.” Harrington said the man took off, coming across the grass at his child, and when she tried to stop him, he did let her cross in front of him, but then took off again. Harrington felt that he almost hit her. The man was told the incident would be documented, and that if there were any future problems, he would be put on trespass notice for the school. Then, he would have to either have his child picked up or transferred to another school.
