Alphonza Dow Sr., 71, husband of Mary Ella Pearson Dow, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the home of his nephew and niece-in-law, J.W. and Dorothy Walters, 309 Pinckney St. in Sumter.

Born in the Davis Station section of Clarendon, "Dow Boy" was a son of the late Elliott and Plummie Gipson Dow. He attended Clarendon County public Schools. He was employed as a logger, farmer and landscaper.

Survivors besides his wife include, three sons, Alphonza (Felicia) Dowe Jr. of Enoree, Jerome Dowe of Manning and Christopher (Shaneika) Dowe of Sumter; two daughters, Teresa and Sandra Dowe, both of Manning; two brothers, Milton Dowe of Davis Station and Ulysees (Rebecca) Dowe of Manning; a sister, Mary Emma Parker of Manning; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The celebratory services for Alphonza Dow Sr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Gloria Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Ivory Cemetery in Davis Station.

The family received friends at the home of his wife, 2449 Jerro Road in Manning.
