Two debates scheduled for GOV's race

COLUMBIA (AP) — Gov. Nikki Haley, Democratic Sen. Vincent Sheheen and petition candidate Tom Ervin are participating in an Oct. 14 debate in Charleston. Haley and Ervin also have agreed to debate Oct. 21 in the Upstate. Both are co-sponsored by The Post and Courier and TV stations across the state. Sheheen's campaign says he wants to participate in more debates, but Oct. 21 conflicts with a previously proposed debate in Myrtle Beach, and the campaign is trying to work out the schedule so every region gets a debate. The Post and Courier says the Oct. 14 debate will focus on jobs and the economy, while the Oct. 21 debate will be on education and health care. The newspaper says Libertarian Steve French and United Citizens candidate Morgan Bruce Reeves also are invited.
