Woman charged with shoplifting, trespassing

Denelle Ann Staton, 40, of 1058 Varner St. in Manning, was charged about 5:19 p.m. Saturday with shoplifting and trespassing after notice at a store in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway in Manning. According to reports from the Manning Police Department, Staton was identified by a loss prevention specialist with the store for allegedly taking $101 worth of merchandise without paying for it. The store's employee told police that Staton had placed the allegedly stolen items in several grocery bags and then attempted to leave the store without paying for them. The items included two cases of Bud Light beer; a 20-ounce bottle of Sprite; a 12-pack of Pepsi; a pack of napkins; anti-perspirant; Dove soap; a bag of charcoal; a pack of nine-inch paper plates; a bottle of Ice strawberry lemonade; a 20-ounce bottle of mustard; a bottle of ketchup; a bottle of Hickory sugar barbecue sauce; a package of chicken thighs; and a package of ground beef patties. Reports indicate that Staton had been served with a prior trespass notice for the store.
