keep-calm-and-think-pink-50Clarendon County Sheriff’s deputy Annett Smith will once again host Think Pink, her special program in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Manning Junior High School gymnasium. The ticket price per person is $15. The program will feature praise dancing, musical selections and a fashion show. Performers include the Gospel Jubilees of Sumter, Culture LIve Band and Show and Robert J. Baker, along with many others. Jeffrey Lampkin, Jessica Lane and Alfreda Johnson will emcee. SLED revokes 350 CWP; 6 in Clarendon affected

SLED-LETTER-1SLED-LETTER-2Six concealed weapon permit holders in Clarendon County who received training from a 30-year-old Columbia man have had their permits revoked.

Andrew A. Gajadhar, was charged Tuesday with 29 counts for, a warrant alleges, “selling concealed weapons permits without providing the training required by law.”

Agents say Gajadhar signed off on certificates to signify that “the person receiving the permit had passed a written and handgun proficiency examination.”

Folks living in 27 South Carolina are affected by Gajadhar’s alleged falsification efforts. These folks – along with those in Clarendon County – were sent letters to surrender their permits within 15 … Read the rest

Born in New Zion, he was a son of the late Archie Thompson Buddin and Gladys Biggons Buddin Taylor. Known as “Sonny,” he was a graduate of Salem High School and The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, fought bravely in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

crime-sceneThe mother of a 17-year-old boy charged over the weekend with allegedly selling more than $10,000 of his father’s property while the older man is in jail said she disputes the facts presented in a report by the Manning Police Department.

James E. King III of LeGrande Street in Manning was charged Saturday with breach of trust with fraudulent intent of more than $2,000 after the boy’s grandparents told police that more than $10,000 of the boy’s father’s property was sold on the Internet.

Man charged in May lake fatality facing two prior DUIs

The 26-year-old Florence man charged officially Monday for his alleged role in the death of a 19-year-old on Lake Marion in May has two DUI charges pending against him.

The state Department of Natural Resources, however, says that the wreck that happened May 19 that led to the death of Millicent McDonald did not involve alcohol. They say Justin Reed Walters passed field sobriety tests at the scene.

Born May 16, 1964, in the Cypress Fork section of Alcolu, he was a son of Edward Hicks Sr. and the late Shirley Gamble Hicks.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister, Frances Hicks, 8171 Juneburn Road in Alcolu.

It’s not raining

We’re currently seeing temperatures in the low to mid 60s with 89 percent humidity and winds out of the northeast at 2 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high is expected to be about 81 with plenty of sunshine and winds out of the north at 6 to 8 mph. Tonight’s low is around 58 with light and variable winds.

A 25-year-old man accused of hitting a 19-year-old woman riding in May a jet ski in the waters of Lake Marion was formally charged Monday with reckless homicide by watercraft, a charge carrying up to 10 years in prison.

Clarendon County Magistrate Judge Elease Fulton granted Justin Reed Walters of Florence a $20,000 personal recognizance bond Monday afternoon, saying she saw him as neither a flight risk, nor a danger to society.

Interstate 95 now clear

The S.C. Highway Patrol has cleared Interstate 95 in the northbound lanes near the 126 mile-marker after an early morning wreck between two tractor trailers and six passenger vehicles sent drivers and passengers to the hospital and also shut down through-traffic for nearly eight hours.
