Wreck with no injuries at 119 Exit in Manning

South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe S.C. Highway Patrol is currently responding to a wreck with no injuries at the 119 exit on Interstate 95 in Manning. The wreck happened about 11:03 a.m. Friday. Traffic could be slower through that intersection during this time.

LMA JV volleyball team 1-2 against Williamsburg

lma_shieldThe Laurence Manning Academy Junior Varsity volleyball team picked up one win and suffered two losses against Williamsburg Academy at home on Thursday.

The scores were 25-22, 17-15 and 26-16.

Haleigh Lewis and Sarah Collen both had eight serve points. The team plays against Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree next week.


LMA Lady Swampcats go 3-2 against Williamsburg

LMA ShieldThe Laurence Manning Academy Lady Swampcats volleyball team picked up three wins and two losses at home against Williamsburg Academy on Thursday.

The scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-11, 26-24 and 15-7. Courtney Beatson had 13 kills, while Sara Herbert had 11 kills and 14 serve points. Megan Grams had 12 serve points, and Maia Grams had 10 serve points.

Born June 19, 1929, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Heywrd Graham and Marie Brand Graham.

Celebratory services for Mary Pearl Graham will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at St. John AME Church in the Workman community of Williamsburg County with the Rev. Frederick Johnson, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Larry Collins will assist. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Manning woman charged with food stamp fraud

Crime-ReportsA Manning woman was charged Aug. 6 by the state Department of Social Services with fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps of an amount of $5,000 or more.

Allisia Robinson, 39, of 1094 W.E. Road in Manning, was granted a $2,500 surety bond the day of her arrest at the Clarendon County Detention Center.

A warrant obtained from the Clarendon County Clerk of Court’s Office alleges that Robinson “failed to report, as requested, child support payments” from three separate men, all of whom were verified by Family Court.

LAKE CITY – James George Pearson, husband of Patsy Ruth McFadden Pearson, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

Born Feb. 28, 1957, in the Davis Station section of Clarendon County, he was a son of James “Jim” Jones and the late Rebecca Pearson and stepson of Evonne Jones. He attended Clarendon County public schools and was a 1975 graduate of Scott’s Branch High School. He was a member of Newlight Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Crop fire in Summerton

Clarendon County Fire Chief Frances Richbourg said a few minutes ago that a large plume of smoke coming from southeastern Clarendon County near Summerton is a farmer burning off old crops and is not threatening any property in the area.

Highway Patrol, Clarendon County EMS and other emergency responders are currently working a wreck with injuries at the 120 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. No other information is available at this point. Traffic will be slower during this time. The wreck happened about 1:50 p.m., according to reports.

Steele Morris experiences life in the NFL

Manning native Steele Morris is doing big things in the athletic training field.

Morris graduated in 2013 from Charleston Southern University with a bachelor of science in athletic training. He headed to Columbia in August 2013 to start his masters degree at the University of South Carolina, where he is expected to graduate in May 2015.

Morris has been a fixture on the sidelines of South Carolina football games, but recently took on a new challenge, traveling to Detroit for a summer internship for the Detroit Lions, where he said he got a wide range of experience.

Hoyt Thomas Fulton, 67, husband of Beulah Mae Floyd Fulton, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Charleston, Tommy was a son of the late Woodrow Wilson Fulton and Margaret Sanders Fulton. He was a member of Meadowbrook Church of God.

Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two children, H.E. (Diane) Floyd of Pinewood and Suzan M. (Daniel) Ciconte of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Wanda) Fulton of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori An Defee.
