Sunny and hot today

According to the National Weather Service, it’s going to be pretty hot today.

Right now temps are in the high 70s with 88 percent humidity, but today’s high is expected to be in the high 90s with heat index values as high as 101.

Tonight there’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with a low around 75 degrees.

 

 


Welder, chainsaw stolen from Summerton home

Crime-ReportsA Lincoln stick welder valued at $600 and a Poulan Woodshark chainsaw with a 14-inch bar valued at $125 were reportedly stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Hammond Road in Summerton between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and 7:20 a.m. Aug. 13.

PETERSON-ENGAGEMENTMr. and Mrs. Ronnie D. Peterson of Manning are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Nicole Peterson to Joshua David Mahaffey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan D. Mahaffey of Chapmanville, West Virginia.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Brewer Sr. of Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Peterson of Sumter. She graduated from Laurence Manning Academy, and received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from Coastal Carolina University. She is employed as a wellness associate at The Lakes at Litchfield in Pawleys Island.

Wreck with no injuries on I-95

BOLO: 1987 blue Chevy pickup

BOLOClarendon County dispatch has issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a 1987 blue Chevrolet pickup truck. Dispatch advised all county and city units in Clarendon County to notify Summerton Police Department if they see the vehicle. Dispatchers did not specify why authorities are searching for the vehicle. Call (803) 485-4385 if you see this vehicle.

Manning man adds assault and battery to murder, attempted murder charges

A 21-year-old Manning man charged last year for his alleged role in the beating death of 50-year-old Anthony Ronald Wimberly of Manning has added a new charge after allegedly assaulting a guard at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.

Jonathan Cody Newman was charged last week with second-degree assault and battery, along with Mario Antwan Lloyd, 23, of Sumter. Officials with the jail – to which Newman was moved from Clarendon County Detention Center after his arrest last year – said a 34-year-old guard had to be transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center after the incident.

The Summerton Police Department hosted a National Night Out event on Monday to hand out school supplies, enjoy a cook-out and stress the role everyone plays in community improvement.

There’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today in Clarendon County, most likely after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Currently, it’s about 83 degrees with 70 percent humidity, which is nice.

High temps today will range in the mid 90s with west winds reaching 11 to 14 mph. Tonight’s low should be around 71 degrees with northwest winds from 3 to 7 mph.

FLORENCE – Jeffery Brandon Brigman, 29, of Florence, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014.

Born in Mullins, he was a son of Larry Wayne and Cheryl White Brigman. He worked for Carolina Med-Care in Florence, and was a volunteer paramedic with the Howe Springs Fire Department. He was an MMA fighter with Florence Fight Farm. He loved the Carolina Panthers and was a fitness enthusiast.
