As of Monday, Tammy Tidwell will have been running Sandwiche Castle for 30 years. “I worked at the hospital and just decided to buy a restaurant,” she said. “I had worked part-time as a student for several different places in the restaurant business.” With a little help from her parents, who co-signed a loan, and from A.C. English at the Bank of Clarendon, Tidwell set out on a three-decade adventure. “The Sandwiche Castle was already open, and I purchased it from Lonzo Brown after they’d been open about nine months,” Tidwell said. The Manning native said she has been “blessed with some good, loyal, honest employees over the years.” “It seems to be harder to find them,” she said. “The food industry is hard work, and I have watched in this town as many independent food businesses and have come and gone. But I have been blessed with great and loyal customers.” Tidwell is married to Kenny Tidwell and has a son, Blake Johnson and a stepson, Chris Tidwell.
