Ophelia Kennedy Cousar, 88, widow of James Cousar, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.

Born April 10, 1926, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Downing Kennedy and Katie Gamble Kennedy. She attended Walker Gamble Public School in New Zion, and joined Melina Presbyterian Church in Gable at an early age. She did domestic work for several years.

Survivors include five sons, (Rosemarie) Cousar, John Mack Cousar and Deacon Ronnie (Annett)  Cousar, all of Manning, Allen Greg (Betty) Cousar of Columbia and James (Donna) Cousar Jr. of Dallas, Texas; five daughters, Betty Jean Cousar, Gentha Cousar, Gloria  (Mike) Briggs and Jaqueline  Cousar, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Carolyn (Rickie) Dingle of Manning; grandchildren raised as her own, Rodney Cousar, Shontella Cousar and Catrina Cousar-Ferrell, all of Atlanta; five sisters, Elder Evangeline Myers of Turbeville, Evangelist Reather Lewis of Amityville, N.Y., Fannie Woods of Washington, D.C., Geneva Hawkins of North Babylon, N.Y., and Carrie State of Lake City; and 36 grandchildren.

Celebratory services for Ophelia Kennedy Cousar will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at Melina Presbyterian Church, 3539 Black River Road in Gable, with the Rev. Samuel Sparks, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Mrs. Cousar will lie in repose for an hour prior to services.

The family received friends at her home, 639 Frazier St. in Manning.
