Laurence Manning’s defense clicked on all cylinders tonight and boosted the ‘Cats to a 14-5 win against Augusta Christian. Laurence Manning’s head football coach Robbie Briggs was elated with his team’s effort. “This is the second year in a row that we’ve beat Augusta Christian,” Briggs said. “They are a good football team, and I’m thankful we beat them.” Action started with the Lions on offense. After a quick series the Swampcat defense forced Augusta Christian to punt the ball. One play after a Laurence Manning punt Tyshawn Epps jumped a route for an interception at Augusta Christian’s 20 yard line. LMA’s Adam Lowder punched the ball in for a touchdown a couple plays later. Laurence Manning held Augusta Christian to a field goal a few drives later, and the first half of football would end in a 7-3 score. The trend of great defensive play continued in the second half. LMA forced Augusta Christian to turn the ball over three times. The Swampcats also forced four turnovers on downs, two inside the redzone. Briggs was impressed with his guys’ effort on defense. “I’ve got to thank my defense for playing so well,” he said. “We had three turnovers and you don’t just do that every game.” Laurence Manning’s defense played against one of the top offensive lineman in the country. Augusta Christian’s right offensive tackle Zach Giella is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and has committed to play for Clemson next year. Adam Lowder and Tyshawn Epps scored Laurence Manning’s two touchdowns. The Swampcats will be on the road against Pinewood Prep next Friday. Briggs keep it short and sweet about his team moving forward. “We will be better.” he said.
