The Clarendon Hall Junior Varsity football team lost its opening home game Thursday night, falling 20-12 to Patrick Henry Academy, bringing the record to 1-1 on the season. The Patriots were able to score early with two first-quarter touchdowns, including a 63-yard interception for a touchdown. The Saints offense sputtered early in the second quarter with a fumble on the Patriot 8-yard line and also drove to the Patriot 25-yard line, but ran out of time as the first half ended. The Saints were able to close the gap, controlling almost the entire third quarter, to score as the fourth quarter began on a 61-yard drive that ended with a touchdown from Dylan Way that brought the score to 12-6. However, the Patriots responded with their own touchdown on two plays to up the score to 20-6. The JV Saints mounted another drive starting at the Patriot 44, taking four plays with Kameron Earles scoring on a seven-yard run. The Saints had one last chance, with time running out, but a fumble on the Patriot 40-yard line, for the Saints sixth turnover of the night, ended any chances, as the Patriots took a knee to run out the clock. The offense was led by Kameron Earles, who had nine carries for 44 yards and a touchdown. Bobby Ashba added 11 carries for 43 yards. Way had 13 carries for 20 yards rushing, and a touchdown and was 4-10, passing for 78 yards. Ben Corbett caught four passes for 73 yards. The defense was led by Ashba with 11 total tackles, with two tackles for a loss; Corbett added five tackles with one being for a loss. The Saints will take a week off before traveling Sept. 11 to North Charleston to take on Palmetto Christian Academy.
