Manning High improves half-point on ACT score

Manning High School was recognized last week as one of 89 throughout the state to make what state Superintendent of Education Mick Zais called "significant improvement" on the ACT. MHS made a half-point improvement over 2013, two-tenths more than the three-tenths required for significant improvement, Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent John Tindal said. "I'm proud of the progress that we've made," he said. "Obviously our scores are going in the right direction. We'd love to be at the state average, but I'm proud of our students and our staff." The national average for ACT composite scores was 21; South Carolina's average was 20.4. The test scores students in four subject areas, including English, math, reading and science. MHS students scored 18.3 for 2014. "South Carolina students are to be commended for their performance on the 2014 ACT test," said Zais. "While South Carolina's average ACT composite score was slightly under the national average, its proximity proves that we are making progress. These are positive results that we can build on for the future."
