A Manning man treated at Clarendon Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning for a stab wound to his face will be facing a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature due to allegedly causing the fight that led to his and another man's injuries. The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office reports that Eric K. Stephens, 40, of 4191 North Brewington Road in Manning, admitted to assaulting a 44-year-old Manning man about 7:45 a.m. Thursday on McLeod Road in Manning. Stephens alleged the victim was sleeping with his wife. The victim told deputies that Stephens stood in front of the vehicle in which the victim was riding to work, and that the driver had to slam on brakes to avoid hitting Stephens. Stephens allegedly choked the victim while he was sitting in the truck, and the victim grabbed a knife and stabbed Stephens in the face. Stephens was initially treated at Clarendon Memorial Hospital before being moved to Palmetto Health Richland. The victim stated he would receive treatment at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, and was treated there for a broken nose. The victim had scratches and cuts on his body, and complained of chest pains.
