Danielle Tamburrini, 25, is one of 10 medical students with the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine who will be calling Clarendon Memorial Hospital home for the next two years. A graduate of SUNY Oswego with a degree in biology and chemistry, the Copake Lake, New York native said she is ready to get out of the classroom and into the clinic. She wants to practice neo-natalogy, the study of newborns, when she is done with her rotations at the local hospital. will be featuring eight of the 10 students in the next few days.

OBITS-BACKGROUND-6-smallerInfant Bryson C. Smith entered this world on July 24, 2014, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center and departed shortly after.

He was the son of Sheldon R. Smith and Jasmine L. McGee.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Manning Cemetery in Pinewood with the Rev. Daimon Brown.

Survivors besides his parents include two sisters, Jardann Smith and Lyndann Smith; and one brother, Cameron Smith; grandparents, Kevin and Joycel McGee and John Henry Smith; and great-grandmothers Margaret McGee and Mary Smith.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.

OBITS-BACKGROUND-smallerRaymond Pack died Friday, July 18, 2014, at his home in Sumter.

Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Sumter, “Bubba” was a son of the late Altamount and Estelle Bethune Pack. Early in life, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined the family home church, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Paxville. He met and married Fannie Dewitt, and to this union two children were born. “Bubba,” as we fondly called him, was a hardworking man. He held several positions cutting pulp wood, working for Becker Sand and Gravel in Bennettsville and Santee Print in Sumter.

Firefighters rally behind family of one of their own

Capt. Michael Johnson, Deputy Chief Jonathan Jones and Battalion Commander Robert Pegram all know one thing after working with fellow Clarendon County firefighter Joshua Bryant.

They know that if they were in his situation, he’d do whatever he can to help.

Bryant’s son with his wife, Ashley, was born June 27 with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Little Banks Bryant is today a month old, but his parents have yet to hold him. His undeveloped heart and the multiple surgeries he will need won’t let them.

Chat n’ Chew owners get special visitors from Coastal Carolina University

Robert J. Baker / Times Chat n’ Chew’s newest owners, Willodene and Bernard Blackmon, said they’ve always heard Coastal Carolina University in Conway was founded in their restaurant, but they’d never confirmed it until a group of students and the college’s president visited earlier this month.

Chat n’ Chew owners Bernard and Willodene Blackmon and their employees thought July 9 just another Wednesday.

They had the regular influx of customers, and knew they had a reservation for 15 diners.

Born Dec. 24, 1967, in Pinewood, he was a son of Leroy and Thomasina Richardson. He attended Sumter County Public Schools, and was a 1986 graduate of Furman High School. At an early age, Larry accepted Christ and joined St. James AME Church and later joined Allen Chapel AME Church. Larry was a loyal and dedicated employee of UPS for more than 15 years, before his illness. OBITS-BACKGROUND-7-smallerMarguerite Gregg Gardner, 96, widow of Cary Gardner Jr., died Friday, July 18, 2014, at McElveen Manor in Sumter.

Born Nov. 20, 1917, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Ellett and Mary Agnes Rowe Gregg. She attended the public schools of Florence County. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah AME in Sumter. She was employed by the Shaw family of Shaw Lumber Co. for more than 50 years.

Survivors include four nieces, Blondena F. Gamble, Wanda Rhett, Joyce Rhett and Freda Rhett; and three nephews, Charles (Eloise) Jackson, Fred Rhett and Eric Rhett.
