South_Carolina_Highway_PatrolThe S.C. Highway Patrol and other emergency agencies are currently responding to a wreck with injuries at the 108 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. The wreck happened about 11:13 a.m. Wednesday.

Johnson joins Clarendon 2 board officially

Kim Johnson was sworn-in Tuesday night as a new member of the Clarendon School District 2 Board of Trustees by her father, Sen. Kevin Johnson, as her family looked on. Johnson was appointed to the board in June by the Clarendon County School Board, who looked at seven applicants for three seats on the board. Chairman Matthew Prince and board member Robert “Bobby” Fleming were reappointed to their seats.

Wreck in southbound lanes of Interstate 95

Highway Patrol and other emergency responders are working a vehicle wreck between the 124 and 126 mile-markers in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Alcolu. The vehicle has hit a tree, according to reports. There were no injuries and no entrapment. Traffic may be slower during this time.

Robert Mark Blackmon, 57, husband of Nancy Brewer Blackmon, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston.

Born Feb. 8, 1957, in Camden, he was a son of the late Robert Lewis Blackmon and Myrtis Fletcher Blackmon. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering fraternity, the Tau Beta Pi Engineering fraternity, the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity and was also a board certified engineer with the S.C. Commission: 2 of 8 voters could have voted; results from July 8 election stand

Although the Manning Municipal Election Commission accepted that two voters living on Sunset Drive in Manning may have been disenfranchised in the special election held July 8 for the District 5 Manning City Council seat, the three-member commission noted those voters would not have changed the result.

The commission – Margaret Walker, J. Wilder and Chairwoman Beatrice Simon – certified the results of last week’s election in turning down a protest from write-in candidate Sharmane Anderson, who came in third with 28 votes. The Manning Municipal Election Commission is checking eight voters which Sharmane Anderson claims were denied the right to vote in the District 5 special election held July 8.

The Manning Municipal Election Commission is currently consulting its attorney, John Moyland, over evidence presented Tuesday morning by Sharmane Anderson, a write-in candidate for District 5 who came in third in last week’s election.

Anderson says that voters were turned away from the polls and denied their right to vote.

Check back for the three-member commission’s decision.

SUMTER – Johnny David McCall Sr., 65, widower of Myrtle T. McCall, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 4, 1948, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alex and Gladys Anderson McCall.  He was retired equipment operator.

Survivors include a son, Johnny D. McCall Jr. of Sumter; a son-in-law, Stewart Avery of Sumter; three brothers, Jackie McCall of Charleston, James McCall of Hopkins and Jerry McCall of Sumter; a sister, Carolyn Jones of Hopkins; a grandchild, Ryder McCall Avery of Sumter; and a number of other family and friends.

Robbery suspect denied bond

A Summerton man charged Monday with armed robbery will remain at the Clarendon County Detention Center, after Magistrate Judge June Briggs denied bond on Monday evening.

Victor Lloyd Perry, 23, of 1136 Governor Richardson Road in Summerton, was charged by the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes said in an email.

A Summerton man has been charged with armed robbery, according to Clarendon County Detention Center Shelton Hughes.

Victor Lloyd Perry, 23, of 1136 Governor Richardson Road in Summerton, is being held at the jail pending a bond hearing. He was charged by the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes said in an email.

Golden Chick presents $500 check to Haven of Rest

check-presentation-from-golden-chickGolden Chick of Manning owner Cory Wright presented Cynthia Bradham of Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center – Haven of Rest a check for $500 on Monday morning at the restaurant, which opened in April. It is Wright’s second location, the first being in Sumter. Bradham said the money will be used to purchase the T-shirts for the group’s 3rd annual walk to raise awareness for domestic violence, which will be held in October.
