A 27-year-old North Carolina woman and her 11-year-old son were killed in a wreck at the 117 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 on Monday afternoon. Maria Susenna-Ocompos of Monroe, N.C., was driving northbound in the right lane of I-95 when a right tire blew out on her vehicle, forcing her into the left lane where she made contact with another vehicle. According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, she then left the highway and made broadside contact with a tree. Clarendon Coroner Hayes Samuels said both the woman and her son, Onesimo Jimenez, were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, which had a North Carolina tag, was airlifted to a Columbia hospital. The wreck is still under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
