Marguerite Gregg Gardner, 96, widow of Cary Gardner Jr., died Friday, July 18, 2014, at McElveen Manor in Sumter.

Born Nov. 20, 1917, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Ellett and Mary Agnes Rowe Gregg. She attended the public schools of Florence County. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah AME in Sumter. She was employed by the Shaw family of Shaw Lumber Co. for more than 50 years.

Survivors include four nieces, Blondena F. Gamble, Wanda Rhett, Joyce Rhett and Freda Rhett; and three nephews, Charles (Eloise) Jackson, Fred Rhett and Eric Rhett.

The celebratory services for Marguerite Gregg Gardner was held Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Mt. Pisgah AME Church in Sumter, with the Rev. Betty Clark, pastor, officiating, assisted by Minister Eloise Conyers Jackson, the Rev. Jerome McCary and the Rev. Effie Hilton.

Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.

The family received friends at the home of her nephew and nieces, Charles and Eloise Jackson, 4056 Alex Harvin Highway in Manning.

These services were entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
