The Manning Police Department put away more than 70 grams of marijuana over the weekend, and arrested two of the individuals police believe were distributing it. Trent Lamark Williams, 25, of 726 Barnwell Road in Manning, and Corey Simmons, 17, of 1305 DuRant Lane in Manning, were each charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute about 10 p.m. Saturday after a traffic stop. A 15-year-old girl was also detained with the men. Chief Blair Shaffer said Simmons was pulled after Private 1st Class William B. Secrist II observed him driving without a seatbelt about 8:23 p.m. near the intersection of Sunset and Alfred Henry drives. Secrist noted a strong smell of marijuana when approaching the car, writing in his report that Simmons was "shaking very badly and sweating profusely" after being asked to step out of the vehicle. Simmons admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle, according to reports. Williams, his passenger, later pulled out five white bags of suspected marijuana, Shaffer said. Secrist and narcotics investigator with the department later found five more bags in the vehicle's floorboards. Altogether police found 72.3 grams of marijuana. A juvenile petition was done for the 15-year-old girl in the car with the men, and she was released to her mother's custody. Williams posted a $5,000 personal recognizance bond on Sunday. No bond information was available for Simmons - who was also cited for the seatbelt violation - on Tuesday.
