The Clarendon Soil and Water Conservation District has partnered with Clemson University Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service to hold a Soil Health Workshop at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at the F.E. DuBose Center. Topics for the workshop will include the basics of soil health; where South Carolina currently is; South Carolina's future outlook; and the use of cover crops as a tool for soil health. The conclusion of the meeting will feature a farmer panel that will include producers from across the state who have been utilizing cover crops on their farms. Attendees will have the opportunity to have a "back and forth" discussion with the panel about their personal experiences with the implementation of cover crops into their crop rotation. There is no charge for the event, but guests will need to RSVP to Casey Blackmon by 3:30 p.m. Aug. 6 by calling (803) 435-2612, ext. 101, or by emailing casey.blackmon@sc.nacdnet.net. Certified crop advisor and pesticide renewal credits will be available.
