SPARTANBURG - Wofford head women's basketball coach Edgar I. Farmer Jr., announced the promotion of Jessica Ridgill to associate head coach on Thursday, effective immediately. Ridgill, a native of Manning, recently completed her third season as an assistant coach on staff. She primarily works with the guards and helped rising junior Jordan Frazier finish the 2013-14 season ranked No. 5 in the NCAA in steals per game, averaging 3.0. "Coach Jessica Ridgill has done an excellent job on our staff," Farmer said. "Her positive attitude, tireless work ethic, loyalty and commitment to this program getting better are irreplaceable. She truly exhibits and embodies what it means to be a Terrier, in all facets, from the classroom to the court and as a person." Wofford has gotten off to some of its best starts in program history since Ridgill joined the staff in 2011. That year, she helped guide the Terriers to a 13-win season and 6-0 start, marking the most wins to begin a season in school history. The 13 victories were Wofford's most in five years, and the season also included the Terriers advancing to the second round of the Southern Conference Tournament, defeating the College of Charleston, 64-53, before suffering a close defeat to Davidson. The 2012-13 team began the campaign 4-1, trumping Maine in overtime, UNC Asheville, Kennesaw State and NC Central in consecutive outings – the lone loss coming to NC State. The Terriers got their fifth win of the season on the road in Tuscaloosa, defeating Alabama, 58-52. A 2002 Wofford College graduate with a B.A. in business economics, Ridgill ran the point for the Terriers from 1998-02. She finished her career with 387 career assists, which currently ranks third in the Wofford record books, and is also ranked sixth for assists in a single season with 117 in 1999-00. Adding to her playing accomplishments, Ridgill held the school record for assists in a single game with 13 in February of 2000, before Rachel Brittenham broke that mark with 15 in 2011. Ridgill's 2002 senior year, the Terriers won 16 games, the most in a season since Wofford joined the Southern Conference and NCAA Division I.
