Deaconess Mary Canty Brock, 63, wife of Deacon Joe Edward Brock, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at her home, 117 Curtiswood Drive in Sumter.

Born Aug. 2, 1950, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Boosie and Turner Lee Bradshaw Canty. In her youth, she joined Pine Grove AME Church in Greeleyville, where she served on the junior usher board. After marriage, she moved to Boston, Mass., where she joined New Hope Baptist Church. She later moved to New York City and joined Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and served on the deaconess board.

After moving back to South Carolina, she joined New Fellowship Baptist Church in Sumter. She was a 1968 graduate of Manning Training High School. She retired from ADT securities after 30 years of dedicated service.

Survivors besides her husband of the home include a son, Michael (Nicole) Brock of Richmond, Va.; a stepdaughter, Jacqueline (David) McDonald of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.; three brothers, Ulysees Bradshaw of Cocoa, Fla., and Matthew and Burnett Canty, both of Greeleyville; three sisters, Rosa (Michael) Toney and Linda Pressley, both of Greeleyville, and Alistain (Donald) Buchanan of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; five aunts, Rena Joe of Greeleyville, Mary Lawson and Roxena Joe, both of Titusville, Fla., and Ollie Mae Bennett and Christine Bradshaw, both of Baltimore, Md.; an uncle, Dozier (Betty Jean) Bradshaw of Bradenton, Fla.; seven sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Samuels Funeral Home LLC, 114 N. Church St. in Manning.

Celebratory services for Mary Canty Brock will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at New Fellowship Baptist Church, 105 S. Purdy St. in Sumter, with the Rev. Dale Edwards, pastor, presiding, the Rev. James Morrison, pastor of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Bronx, N.Y., serving as eulogist, and Minister Claudia Harvin, the Rev. Maurice Webber and the Rev. Effie Hilton assisting. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter.

Mrs. Brock will lie in repose one hour prior to service time.

The family will receive friends at the home.
