Seacoast team 'serves' county

Pastor Jim Fleming of Seacoast Church guessed about a dozen members of the church's serve team helped spruce up Rex Josey Park on Saturday. Every third Saturday of the month, the serve team – and really anyone who wants to help out – meets at 201 N. Church St., prays, and then heads out on a simple mission: To help out. "It's such a good feeling to get out and do something for others and not expect anything in return," Fleming said. "It's such a blessing. We just do what we can and could do.” Next month the group plans a free car wash and won't take any donations. "We just want to give freely," he said. Fleming said Aaron Rollins of the serve team asked Mayor Julia Nelson what could be done around town and she pointed them to Rex Josey Park. Graffiti was removed. Walls were painted. A weedeater was wielded. "And we generally did a little makeover," he said. Seacoast Church members meet at F.E. DuBose Career Center at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. All denominations are accepted. "We're interdenominational," he said. "We just believe in being an outward expression of God's love. We believe in the Bible -- that's the sole basis for our belief." Fleming said anyone and everyone is welcome to attend services or help out with the serve team. "Everybody needs to have a relationship with God," he added.
