The Rev. Delbert Singleton spoke about a memorial stone unveiled for George Stinney Jr. near Alcolu on Saturday as a stone representing hope for all of those "unjustly" convicted and executed. Second-cousins of the 14-year-old boy executed 70 years ago today for the murders of 11-year-old Betty June Binnicker and 7-year-old Mary Emma Thames joined members of A New Day to place a headstone for the boy, who never had a headstone placed at his true place of burial. The family has kept that place a secret for fear of reprisals.
