Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter is currently on lockdown.
At the base's Office of Public Affairs, Airman First Class Cossaboom said that officials are "trying to make sure all airmen are safe."
He was unable to confirm rumors on social media of an active shooter.
About 1:30 p.m., he also said he was unsure how long the base has been on lockdown.
