Ester Mae Brailsford James

Ester Mae Brailsford James, 79, widow of Allen James Sr., died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Friday, Sept. 21, 1934, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Cornetta McBride Brailsford. She attended Clarendon County public schools. Ester was a member of Historic Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton.

Survivors include six sons, Allen (Arletha) James Jr., Lindell (Jatene) James, Rufus (Jeanette) James, Joeshan (Rosa) James, Michael (Sarah) James and Timothy (Lavonne) James; three daughters, Dereather Dawson, Rena (William) McBride and Barbara (Kenneth) Ragin; two grandchildren, who were raised in the home, Durell James and Tiana James; a brother; four sisters; 35 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton, with Dr. Leslie J. Lovett, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 1765 M.W. Rickenbaker Road in Davis Station.
