SUMMERTON – Helen Lawson, 52, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at her home, 1300 Mac Road in Summerton.

Born Sept. 1, 1961, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Joe Louis Lawson Sr. and Robertha Thames Lawson. She attended Clarendon County public schools, graduating in the Class of 1985 from Scott’s Branch High School in Summerton.

She was a member of Santee AME Church and sang on its Adult Choir.

Survivors include two sisters, Joann (Julius) Davis of Manning and Tewanda Shanta Lawson of Summerton; three brothers, James A. Lawson, Preston (Fannie Mae) Lawson and Joe L. Lawson Jr., all of Summerton; a special sister-in-law, Carol Lawson of Bronx, N.Y.; an aunt, Williene Wright of Summerton; five uncles, Leon (Argenell) Thames of Manning, George (Mivens) Thames of Summerton; Eulius Lawson of Philadelphia, Pa., Roosevelt Thames of Lake City, and Burgess (Nadine) Lawson of Walterboro.

Celebratory services for Helen Lawson were held Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Santee AME Church in Santee, with the Rev. Rommie Williams, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Deloris Gerow presiding. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home.

These services were entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
