Loretta "Ret" Gamble Rose

TURBEVILLE — Loretta “Ret” Gamble Rose, 65, wife of LeVern Rose, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Born Oct. 2, 1948, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Lillian Wells Gamble. She attended Clarendon School District 3 schools. She also studied briefly at Voorhees College, receiving an associate's degree from Sumter Technical College. For more than 30 years, she dedicated her life to working with the children in her district, her neighborhood and her church. In her youth, she joined Mt. Sinai AME Church. Later, she joined Oak Grove AME Church and taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. Survivors besides her husband of the home include five daughters, Stephanie (Earl) Jefferson and Melanie Rose, both of Turbeville, Cheryl Rose of Upper Marlboro, Md., Bridgett Peak of Clarksburg, Md., and Vanessa (Quincy) Durant of Charlotte; an adopted son, Jerrell Johnson of Manning; a brother, Joseph Gamble of Turbeville; three sisters, Helen (Vernal) Howard of New Zion, Delsenia Thompson of Hemingway and Ella (Daniel) Prince of Gable; two sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.Celebratory services for Loretta "Ret" Gamble Rose will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove AME Church, 1709 Burnt Branch Road in Lake City, with the Rev. Shernard Barnes, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Jerome McCray and the Rev. Deloris Rose assisting. Burial will follow in Old McFadden Cemetery, St. James Road in Lake City. Mrs. Rose will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. The family will receive friends at the home, 3434 Hicks Road in Turbeville. These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
