John Ruford Horn, age 82 of Manning, SC, formerly of Tazewell, Va., a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, died Saturday, May 7, 2014, at Regency Hospital in Florence.
Born March 10, 1932 in Blackie, W.Va., he was a son of the late Jess and Barbara Horn Thompson. He retired as a coal miner after 26 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Horn Jr.; a sister, Edna Vincent; and a brother, Earnest Horn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Carol Childress Horn whom he married on May 6, 1961; four children, Brenda Peterson and husband, Bradly of Holly Hill, SC, Barbara Huffman and husband, Greg of Middletown, VA, Karen Davis of Concord, NC, Sharon Bowman and husband, Jeff of Tazewell, VA; five grandsons, Justin and Cory Miller both of Middletown VA, Aaron Davis of Concord, NC, Jessie Bowman of Tazewell VA, and Quinto Hunter Falgiani. IV of North Tazewell, VA; three granddaughters, Brooke Davis of Concord, NC, Emily Bowman, and Rachel Bowman both of Tazewell, VA; two great grandsons, Merrill Miller of Middletown, VA and Easton Bowman of Tazewell, VA; two sisters, Gladys Swader of Glen Burnie, MD and Marlene Bertalo of Baltimore, MD; very special friend, Kerry Johnson of Tazewell, VA; and loving devoted brothers in law, Cecil A. Childress of Richlands, VA, Jack Childress of Richlands VA, and Roger Childress of Tazewell, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, May 23, at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with Minister Wayne Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield VA.
Pallbearers will be Quinto Hunter Falgiani IV, Jesse Bowman, Cory Miller, Aaron Davis, Greg Huffman, and Jeff Bowman.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 PM Thursday, May 22, 2014.
