FBI seeks possible victims of alleged predator

The FBI wants to locate possible victims of an alleged sexual predator who once lived in the Midlands and is accused of drugging, molesting, raping and photographing girls. Matthew John Coniglio, 46, will not have to face his accusers, however; he killed himself in a Savannah, Ga., jail on April 10, just 10 days after being arrested on charges of child pornography, according to the FBI. The Charlotte Observer reported Coniglio allegedly possessed more than 50,000 images and videos depicting children in sexual acts, with some victims as young as 8 years old. The FBI reported Coniglio has lived in Raleigh, N.C., Hilton Head, Charleston, Savannah and Pooler, Ga., in the past 15 years. Investigators believe it is possible victims came from throughout Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. They reported that he traveled throughout the region for work.
Although Coniglio is dead, federal law requires the agency to attempt to seek out his alleged victims to provide assistance.Victims or others who know about Coniglio’s actions can call the FBI’s Victim Assistance number at 1-877-236-8947 or fill out a confidential questionnaire.
