COLUMBIA – A senior from Scott’s Branch High School has nabbed the top spot in the 6th District Artistic Discovery art competition.

Congressman James E. Clyburn announced Tuesday that Teena Wilder’s oil painting and self-portrait set her apart from the other candidates.

“We are extremely proud of Teena Wilder and her artistic accomplishments,” said Clarendon 1 Superintendent Dr. Rose Wilder during Monday’s meeting of Clarendon County Council. “Her portrait will hang in the Rayburn House in Washington, D.C., for a year, and she will get four roundtrip airfare tickets to D.C. for a reception.”

The competition is held annually by members of Congress, and is open to any high school student living in the 6th Congressional District. Wilder will visit Washington in June for a reception for all winners.

"I am always impressed with the artistic talent I see from young people in the Sixth Congressional District," Clyburn said in a release. "Despite the remarkable competition, Teena's painting stood out from the rest. I will be proud to see her artwork displayed on Capitol Hill."
