Mary Louise Singleton, wife of Alvin Singleton, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 6, 1939, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Willie (Anna S.) Marshall Jr. and Georgia Bull Marshall. She attended Sumter County public schools and lived in Mayesville with her grandparents, Willie Marshall Sr. and Mary Tindal Marshall after the death of her mother. She was a member of Ebenezer AME Church. After establishing residency in New York City, she married her husband of 55 years, Alvin Bobby Singleton. She worked at the World Trade Center.

Survivors besides her husband include a daughter, Glendell M. Mayfield of Bronx, New York; a granddaughter, Shameka Mayfield; a stepdaughter, Denise Hilton; two special relatives, Margie M. (Robert) Richardson of Mayesville and Yvonne M. Rogers of Brooklyn, New York; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a nephew, Thomas C. Howard of Bronx; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Job’s Mortuary.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Ebenezer AME Church, 119 E. Sumter St. in Mayesville, with Pastor Phillip L. Washington officiating. Interment will follow at Mayesville Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at 365 Stillwater Court in Sumter.

Job’s Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
