COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced last week that removal of ice storm debris should be completed by Friday. A news release provided March 14 notified residents that “any storm related vegetative debris should be taken to the right-of-way no later than March 24 for pick-up by SCDOT and (its) contractors.”
The department said it will no longer pick up storm related vegetative debris from the roadside past May 9.
“At that point, SCDOT Maintenance forces will focus their efforts on normal maintenance activities of the state highway system,” according to a release sent to The Manning Times last week.
“Disposal of vegetative debris from residential properties will be the responsibility of the homeowner and should be accomplished in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” the release states.
Clarendon County still has one disposal site open at the Clarendon County Landfill on J.W. Rhames Road between Manning and Paxville. The county will not pick up debris from homes, or that left on the side of the road, according to Administrator David Epperson.
